Facebook!

After Sarah Palin delivered her acceptance speech last night for vice presidential nominee as the dynamic crutch for McCains unappealing campaign, an uneasy feeling swept through me. This following a Rudy Guliani speech that made me feel awkward, bewildered and a little angry. Facts were distorted, exaggerations were the norm and his analogies were backwards. It's true, they take pride in being ignorant. Republicans are turning into that annoying "bully" of sorts that keeps repeating the same thing, and laughing, whether true or not.

To old to coach football at 68 years old--four years younger than McCain

Rudy went into this long analogy discussing the resume's of the two candidates who were applying for cheif protector against evil, or something. He said McCains extensive experience would clearly point him in front for any employer. But what if they did a face-to-face interview...who would get the job then? The answer is obvious that the smarter, younger and lively candidate would get the job, politics aside. It is easier to grasp when thinking of it this way: who would you hire between the two of these guys for pretty much any job position? Maybe you need someone to drive your car. Maybe you need someone to manage your bar, coach a sports team, run a tech business or teach a science classs (or economics, or english, or any class). Basically under any scenario you would hire Barack Obama. You would never hire a guy who is 8 years past retirement. In fact, it is not even a consideration for those in the real world. Nobody is persuing old dusty grandpa's to lead their business towards a successful future. The Miami Dolphins hired Bill Parcells as their Head of Operations (at the age of 67--now he's 68). Parcells admitted he is too damn old to coach a professional football team and he's 4 years younger than McCain.

So yeah, dumb fucking anology Rudy.

Palin pulled her speech off well. It was basically two speeches, with the first one about her roots and family values and the next bashing Obama. The second half of the speech was written for whoever was going to be VP.

What makes me feel "uneasy and odd" is the fact that her candidacy is basically mocking the Obama movement. She gives people a reason not to vote for Obama (like my parnents). She is something different, just like Obama. The major difference of course being that Obama beat the Clinton's in a Democratic race like no other. He has raised tons of money and changed the way elections will be financed and run. Palin can mock him all she wants but she still needs to prove her worth. She talked about her kids and how it relates to her values but she won't discuss health care or most major issues. She will have to go that direction and figure out what the hell John McCain wants her to say.

Palin's nomination is what it is; gimmickry. She is the equivalent to (as I read on a message board) Pat Buchanan in a skirt. Drill! Drill! Drill! was one of the mantra's. All I heard was "Big Money Oil Company!"

It comes down to this for me: People who vote for Obama are either lifelong republicans, they don't agree with his policies or they don't really like black people. He is clearly more mentally fit to run the country and no matter how people skew his morality and ideas he is the one last viable candidate with  a chance to witn who can move America forward.

Liars and Hypocrites in the reactionary right are shaping the media. We're gonna give 'em the Truth, and they're gonna think it's hell!

Graphic 9/11 footage exploited at the RNC? Nothing new from the reactionary right. After all.., "Fear First."

A woman one heartbeat from the presidency who opposes birth control for married couples? The record is unclear, and Palin's handlers are keeping her from interviews. If the Press and public don't ask about this until we have clear answers we're negligent in the extreme. Who would have thought it was possible? But there Palin is, a pure-bred product of 40 years of reactionary right cultural engineering. Right here, right now, in our lifetimes.

When they spit out the word "Reform", McCain/Palin don't mean the same thing as when we say "Change." We don't mean "Dismantle America's government for anything but waging war." We don't mean "Deepen the money troubles already faced by America's workers and unemployed." We don't mean "Repeal freedom of speech or the Bill of Rights." We mean to step forwards, not backwards.

When we say "Change", we mean Progress. Change Means Progress.

The frightening truth is that now, McCain/Palin are not 90% of Bush, but 110% worse! This ticket is the culmination of the reactionary right's vendetta on America's values of empathy and responsibility for its families and the larger world. The hypocrisy now in John McCain's campaign is un-American.

ENOUGH!!

This moment is our test of the Democratic Experiment. It is either self-correcting, or it is over.

On November 5th, we will know. The results of this experiment will be in, to us, and to the world.

Focus on genuine progressive values, not trivial bits of investigative journalism. Nail them on their Lies and Hypocrisies. Don't let up. We'll blow right through them. From now til Nov 4... Call states, talk to friends and family, canvas your city, get out the vote, donate, and let's finish this fight. Then we can get to the real work of healing this nation and repairing this world.

Change Means Progress.

1968-2008: Four decades of cultural ruin, at the bloodied hands of the reactionary right, are at an end, if we are ready to step up to the challenge.
