After a couple months of Jeremiah Wright nonsense, fueled further by Wright's official "fuck off" coming out party, Barack Obama follows every mainstream media persons advice and throws his former pastor off of his back (or as I heard 1000 times today, under the bus).
Don't be scared white people, he's white too (Barack and his mom, Stanley)! Indeed, Barack Obama's spiritual advisor has managed to offend millions of people, not including myself. I could give a shit what he says and with the exception of a few erroneous details, I actually agree with some of what he says and find the man highly entertaining. Hell, I've been hearing this stuff a million times over on Rage Against the Machine albums, so his beliefs are not new to me at all. I grew up in Catholic school around sermons that did nothing for me, as my main focus was on the Sunday dresses worn by the beautiful talent that the church provides. Did the United States spread aids, crack and whatever else to the inner cities, probably not but count me in to the group that says I don't trust our government for anything. Count me in to the group that is perfectly aware that black persons account much of the prison population, despite comprosing far less of the overall population in the United States. The same government that lied to enter an oh-so-long war in Iraq, dropped nuclear bombs in Japan and other things that if I choose to explain would make me "anti-american." Anti-American and Weapons of Mass Destruction are just words that people with alterior motives say, in hopes that the herd of sheep will follow like kiebler elves to cookies--which they do like clockwork. If I had grown up poor and neglected than those feelings would likely be even stronger. I do like Obama's message, though, that focusing on these issues is devisive and does no good moving forward. Change will come not only policies, which need changed but action by inspired citizens of THE United States of America. So the mainstream sadness continues, which has now resulted in Obama slamming on somebody that he clearly has had a close personal relationship to. For me to make sense of the political agenda's that swim about like salmon trolling feverishly to their death, I first have to think of my own past. I grew up under the tootelage of a public education system that largely taught tolerance and parents who did the same. For that I am thankful. This does not mean though that I would not hear racist cracks from my friends, family and everyone in between--including myself. This does not make me racist, just ignorant and yet another person following the lead of others. My mother, who taught everyone is equal is the same person who would lock the car doors everytime we would enter the south side of Chicago, where Obama's church is located. My father, a retired lawyer, hung with friends who were largely blue collar folks that saw no reason to exercise restraint towards other races when presented an opportunity for a laugh. This is the reality of living in the real world, with real people, with real opinions--whether they are misguided or not. It has nothing to do with elections and mainstream media propoganda that pushes agendas and ratings, period. I also know that my friends were far more tolerant of other races than their parents, just as Obama seems far more tolerant of other races (even though he's a healthy mix) and more at peace with the world than Reverend Wright. It's called progress and Barack Hussein Obama is a progressive person, clearly. He was genuinely pissed at Wright's ignorance but mostly I think he was just annoyed by his stubborness, leaving him no choice but hate on the man. Obama understands that Wright was being completely over the top but at the same time understands he can't control what people say, do or think. When I spoke to my mother about the Wright nonsense, she told me she was actually thinking of voting for Obama until the "God Damn America" stuff emerged. My father agreed, saying "I would not hang out with someone like that." Oh but dad, you did and still do--but your friends are your friends, so we all forgive and realize just because you associate with well intended people who say ignorant things does not make you ignorant too. Simply put, they are your friends, you trust them with your life and they make you laugh and feel at home. My parents are distgruntled Republicans so it'll be interesting if they vote John McCain or not at all (No chance for a non-republican, I don't think). As it stands though, Barack Obama has had to slam a man he once openly admired and disassociate himself to him because that's the mainstream bullshit world we live in. The same world that uses words like "patriotic" to scare people and win elections instead of inspiring people to make real change. Reverend Wright was under intense scrutiny that was not going to go away and he spoke about it like he knows how; loudly. His ego is under scrutiny by the same people who plastered his face on every newscast for weeks now. And now these same assholes wonder how he could have such a pronounced opinion of his importance to this whole situation and the black church. Are you fucking kidding me? Count me in to the crowd who says I love the American people but hate our government. Whether Obama is allowed by mainstream tampons to admit it or not, he feels the same way and he's going to change the way politics is done in Washington. It's not a threat and it's nothing to be scared of, so join the party and begin to hope.
