Writing Hobby or Pursuit?Posted by Ninigurl in Untagged |

Getting a late start in life at the writing game has had it's challenges. Thank goodness for the internet. I guess I should be more specific - taking my writing public is more appropriate.
In high school, I was a reporter for the school newspaper. I also had a poem published in our school Fine Arts magazine during senior year as well. Other than those contributions, everything else has been private in my journals. My journaling has been a way for peace of mind and a place to keep my poems.
I haven't found my genre of writing yet either. Some writers are better at say horror or mystery. Others are great at non-fiction such as biographies or technical papers. I am somewhere all over the map. I have written, most recently, articles pertaining to life experiences. Some humorous, some opinionated and others serious issues.
As I have stated before I believe that Freedom of Choice is important. Whether it be someone's opinion, mantra or belief. No one should have a right to trample on another's rights. The 1st Amendment guarantees that right regarding Speech. In any form!
Anymore we as American's are censored more and more each day. We are slowly losing our freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution drafted and ratified by the Founding Fathers.
Should we be afraid of what we say, write or think? NO! Plain and simple it is what sets us apart from the rest of the world. That freedom reminds us we are a civilized nation of individuals. It is also what makes the rest of the world want to become citizens of our great country each day.
I never run from criticism of my pieces published. I realize that not everyone is going to agree with or even like my writing. A true writer knows that there will be controversy at some time or another. Although I have run into plenty who believe that anything they publish should come with glowing comments and positivity whether it is trash or genius.
Without the bad how can we appreciate the good in anything? The same applies to writing. It is a 50/50 chance when you publish anything. Whether it be about your grandma's nursing home, assault rifles for hunting or being a single parent.
Writing has been a hobby, but has quickly become a pursuit for me. All that time to make up for ya know!
Who I am? An American Woman first and foremost. Someone who
believes in Freedom of Choice and that ALL killing is wrong whether
necessary or not! A hypocrite I am not. I do not run from
criticism and will give explanation rather than excuses. I admit when
I am truly wrong, apologize and try to make up for my mistakes good and
bad!
